Assignment #4- WHAT IS NEW MEDIA?

"New media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the 20th century. Most technologies described as "new media" are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulated, networkable, dense, compressible, interactive and impartial.[1] Some examples may be the Internet, websites, computer multimedia, computer games, CD-ROMS, and DVDs. New media is not television programs, feature films, magazines, books, or paper-based publications.[2]"

the definition of New Media is as such:

"(1) The forms of communicating in the digital world, which includes publishing on CD-ROM, DVD, digital television and, most significantly, the Internet. It implies the use of desktop and portable computers as well as wireless, handheld devices. Every company in the computer industry is involved with new media in some manner. Contrast with old media."

"(2) The concept that new methods of communicating in the digital world allow smaller groups of people to congregate online and share, sell and swap goods and information. It also allows more people to have a voice in their cojavascript:void(0)mmunity and in the world in general."

In summary, New Media is anything digital and/or technological used to export/import, change & improve information if you will.
