Assignment #4- WHAT IS NEW MEDIA?

According to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_media

"New media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the 20th century. Most technologies described as "new media" are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulated, networkable, dense, compressible, interactive and impartial.[1] Some examples may be the Internet, websites, computer multimedia, computer games, CD-ROMS, and DVDs. New media is not television programs, feature films, magazines, books, or paper-based publications.[2]"

And at http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/0,2542,t=new+media&i=47936,00.asp

the definition of New Media is as such:

"(1) The forms of communicating in the digital world, which includes publishing on CD-ROM, DVD, digital television and, most significantly, the Internet. It implies the use of desktop and portable computers as well as wireless, handheld devices. Every company in the computer industry is involved with new media in some manner. Contrast with old media."

"(2) The concept that new methods of communicating in the digital world allow smaller groups of people to congregate online and share, sell and swap goods and information. It also allows more people to have a voice in their cojavascript:void(0)mmunity and in the world in general."

In summary, New Media is anything digital and/or technological used to export/import, change & improve information if you will.

INTRODUCTION

Hi;

I'm Krichna J. Francois-Venant Marseille. Right now, @ BC, I only use my maiden name: Francois-Venant. This is my first blog. I've created it because it's an assignment from the "NEW MEDIA" class taught by Professor Giladi.

Perhaps, I'll be more elaborate in the near future through the next posts.

My major is Computer Science. I decided to pursue a Master's of Science in that field. Why? The venues are so vast, that I have yet to make up my mind as to where I'll go professionally once I'm done with my studies.

Currently, I've got two jobs. One in the judicial field, as a non-judicial professional, and the other in the health field.

I work for the Inc. Village of Hempstead Justice Court and ACLD.

@ the Justice Court, I'm an assistant supervisor in the Court Clerk's office dealing with legal matters relating to the Justice Court.

@ ACLD, I'm a counselor-technically called a Direct Service Provider- I work with individuals who fall under the guidelines of New York State's Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).

I'll certainly post more information about me later on. As of now, please accept this little summary.
